My newsfeed is filled with business publications. Headlines about powerful female CEO’s and articles about emerging trends. I (and many of my fellow women business owners ) often wonder how that article got there? I can tell you the answer is not that a fairy god reporter reached out to them and said “You are an expert, you are interesting, we will tell your story”. Public relations is a powerful tool. Laurie and her husband Jim Varner are co-owners of Cactus Creative, a traditional and digital marketing firm (cactuscreative.net). She has more than 30 years experience in public relations and newspaper reporting. Laurie has developed and implemented successful public relations programs for nonprofit organizations, small businesses, and large corporations.

Laurie is an accredited, active member of the Public Relations Society of America, and served on the Colorado Chapter Board of Directors for six years. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Women Business Owners, Phoenix Chapter. Laurie also served on the Board for the American Heart Association, Business Professional Women, Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame and the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, chairing the Chamber’s communications council.
